Inverell Shire Council has entered into a partnership program with Northern Inland Academy of Sport in an effort to attract sporting competitions to the town.
Council has supported the not-for-profit, regional community organization on and off since its inception in Armidale in 1992 and in that time, Inverell athletes, coaches and community have directly benefitted from their participation in the regional Academy.
General Manager, Brett McInnes earlier this year met with CEO of NIAS Shona Eichorn to look at opportunities where Council and NIAS could work collaboratively in utilising Inverell as a regional sporting venue.
Shire Mayor Kate Dight says Council will provide $2000 sponsorship to NIAS in a bid to attract new opportunities for the district.
