Parts of the New England are set to experience its first heatwave of the season starting as early as late this week.
A mass of hot air will spread across Australia this week, causing temperatures to climb, with the highest temperatures to occur over the interior and northern parts of Australia, however some southern states will also get a dose of pre-summer warmth.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s in the region, and while hot weather is common at this time of year, this week’s heat will be above average this week and into next week both days and nights.
In Australia, a heatwave occurs when the maximum and minimum temperatures are unusually hot over a three-day period, compared to the local climate and past weather, with severe heatwaves likely to be challenging for vulnerable people, including elderly members of the community and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
