Police remain frustrated that some motorists in the region continue to ignore warnings about speed and driving under the influence following Operation Labour Day 2024.
Inspector Kelly Wixx from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command says they’ve seen during this operation an increase in drivers still doing the wrong thing and placing their lives and the lives of other motorists at risk.
Up until Sunday, police stopped almost 3350 drivers with 22 drivers detected with drugs in their system, 5 people arrested and charged for drink driving offences, 138 speeding infringements were issued and 11 tickets issued for not wearing seatbelts.
