New England police were involved in a pursuit with a 22-year-old driver in Glen Innes who was allegedly trying to evade arrest for domestic violence offences on Friday afternoon.
Police will allege the driver reached speeds in excess 150 km/h before the vehicle hit a gutter with the man then fleeing the scene, leaving a female passenger and his 2 year old child behind in the car.
Police found the toddler was unrestrained in the car with the car seat not properly anchored.
The man was arrested later on Friday and following a drug test, allegedly returned a positive test for cannabis and meth.
He has been refused bail to front court again today.
In another incident, a 23-year-old male driver was detected speeding at 154km/h on the New England Highway at Kentucky on Friday morning.
A subsequent drug test allegedly returned a positive reading for cannabis with police suspending his driver’s license on the spot.
