A homeless man has been refused bail in Armidale Local Court after allegedly sexually assaulting and choking a woman in Glen Innes on Sunday night.
The Northern Daily Leader reports 39-year-old Antonie Johan Van Meurs was charged with breaking into The Convent in Church Street, Glen Innes, between 7pm and 6am on Sunday, where he allegedly committed aggravated sexual assault.
He’s also charged with choking and assault and depriving his victim of their liberty and was later arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday) at a street in Glen Innes.
Magistrate Robert Rabbidge denied Van Meurs bail application and was remanded in custody until Wednesday, November 6.
