Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan has written to the Minister for Police Yasmin Catley following a spike in crime close to the border of New South Wales and Queensland.
Mr Moylan says he’s requested urgent confirmation about cross-border powers between NSW and QLD, after being contact by many worried locals who have recounted stories of violent break and enters and car theft.
According to the MP, following extensive media coverage in the past week, Mr Moylan was contacted by many local residents seeking a practical response from NSW Police, with Mungindi and Boggabilla in NSW as well as Goondiwindi in QLD being hot spots for criminal activity, particularly in minors after hours.
He says he is deeply concerned about the situation and the lack of power border police have regarding this issue, and hopes the Police Minister will respond as soon as possible to help rectify the situation.
