Commemorative services were held yesterday in Inverell for the 51st anniversary of Vietnam Veterans Day as well as Victory in the Pacific.
It was a sombre event taking place at the Vietnam War Memorial at the Inverell RSM club, with over 50 locals gathering to pay tribute to 60,000 soldiers, both fallen and surviving, that took part in the Battle of Long Tan, with formalities concluded with the sound of the Last Post.
This was followed by a brief ceremony held at the Inverell War Memorial, to remember the events of Victory in the Pacific that took place in 1945.
