Brendan Moylan new member for Northern Tablelands

by | Jun 24, 2024 | Politics | 0 comments

History was made when thousands of Northern Tablelands residents hit the polls on Saturday for the by-election, with Nationals candidate Brendan Moylan emerging the victor in succeeding former Nationals Member Adam Marshall.

A total of 26,827 voters made their selection known that the Nationals Party have the community’s best interests in mind with Mr Moylan securing the seat with an enormous 66.5% of the vote, the next candidate Ben Smith from the Shooters Fishers and Farmers party only managing to secure 12%.

A preference count was also done on Saturday night presuming that Dorothy Robinson of the Greens would come second, indicating Mr Moylan would have garnered 85.4% of the two-party preferred vote. This count will need to be redone, which will happen in the check count stage, and is likely to be considerably lower with SFF in the 2PP count instead of the Greens.

The end result of the count will not be formally declared by the NSW Electoral Commission July 10, after the preferences are distributed on July 9. The writs will be returned to the parliament on July 12, after which Mr Moylan will be able to take his seat in parliament.
