Mayor to Use Mayoral Minute to Highlight Recent Award

by | Oct 26, 2026 | Local Government

Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight will use her Mayoral Minute at Wednesday’s Council Meeting to recognise the recent award given to Council at the Aquatic and Recreation Institute (ARI) NSW Awards held in Sydney earlier this month.

Council was awarded the 2026 Regional Facility of the Year Award for the Inverell Aquatic Centre, beating Lake Macquarie City Council and Bega Valley Shire Council.

Mayor Dight says the award is a significant achievement for Council and recognises the outstanding success of the $27.68 million redevelopment of the Inverell Aquatic Centre, which officially opened in February last year.

She says the redevelopment has transformed an ageing facility into a modern, inclusive and accessible year-round aquatic and recreational centre, providing substantial health, wellbeing and social benefits to the Inverell community and broader region.

Cr Dight commended Council’s Director Environmental Services Greg Doman and all Council staff involved in the planning, development and delivery of this significant project and also extended her congratulations and appreciation to Belgravia Leisure, whose management and operation of the Centre have contributed significantly to its success.
