A man charged with the murder of his housemate in Armidale last year has had his case adjourned until January after prosecutors sought to seek a psychiatric assessment of the accused.
The Northern Daily Leader reports James Bowen Hutchison allegedly killed his 78-year-old housemate Peter Hogg in October 2025 at a residence on Markham Street in Armidale.
In Armidale Local Court on Wednesday, NSW Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor Sarah Wilkin stated she would be seeking to have its own expert assess Hutchison after the defence produced a report which suggested he suffered from mental illness to an extent it would serve as a trial defence.
Ms Wilkins requested Judge Lucas Swan to seek an adjournment to find an expert and commission their own report with defence solicitor John Harris making no objection to the delay.
Judge Lucas Swan granted the adjournment with the case back before the court in January.
