The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) continues to manage 10 bush and grass fires across the Inverell and Tenterfield Local Government Areas, including a new fire ignited by storm activity on Sunday.
All fires are currently burning under an Advice alert level, however community members will continue to see firefighters, aircraft and heavy machinery active across the firegrounds as crews work to strengthen containment lines.
RFS Incident Controller Superintendent Daniel Osbourne said while significant progress has been made, residents should remain vigilant.
“Our firefighters have worked tirelessly over recent days to contain and control these fires, Superintendent Osbourne said.
“While all incidents are currently at an Advice level, conditions can change quickly, and we are asking the community to stay informed and be prepared.
“Following storm activity in the region, there is the potential for new ignitions as temperatures increase later this week. Landholders should inspect their properties carefully for signs of lightning strikes and report any smoke or fire immediately by calling Triple Zero.
Superintendent Osbourne said the cooperation of the local community had been outstanding.
“We ask motorists to continue to remain alert for emergency service personnel and machinery operating on roads or fire trails, and to follow the directions from crews on the ground,” he said.
“Fire permits have also been suspended to avoid any activity that could start a new fire.”

Be aware that fire permits across the Inverell and Tenterfield LGAs are suspended until further notice.
Do not introduce new fire into the landscape, including on private property.
Check properties for signs of lightning strike ignitions as temperatures rise from Thursday.
Report any unattended fire immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).
