Local nbn upgrades to the nbn fibre and fixed wireless networks are now delivering benefits to eligible homes and businesses in Inverell and more work is underway.
Over 4,750 homes and businesses in Inverell, connected via Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) and Fibre to the Node (FTTN) are now able to place an eligible order to upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).
Upgrading to full fibre can enable access to a faster, more reliable nbn broadband service, delivering a range of benefits, including smoother, higher-resolution video calls, enhanced streaming, faster downloads, and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously.
Recent changes also mean that over 2,900 homes and business in the FTTC footprint in Inverell do not require a high-speed plan to order a full fibre upgrade. nbn is prioritising the FTTC network for accelerated transition from copper as it has higher fault rates than nbn’s other copper-based networks.
FTTC technology uses a combination of fibre and legacy copper cabling. A full fibre upgrade replaces the remaining copper connection with fibre optic cable all the way to the premises, providing access to a more reliable, resilient and future-ready connection capable of supporting faster speeds and growing digital demands.
nbn is currently working to upgrade infrastructure in Inverell to provide more residents connected to the FTTN with the opportunity to upgrade to full fibre.
Outside of the nbn fixed line network, more homes and businesses in regional NSW can also now access higher nbn network speeds on their nbn fixed wireless connection as nationwide upgrades enable faster speeds across the network during busy periods, and the introduction of the fastest wholesale speeds ever offered on the nbn Fixed Wireless network.
Many locations serviced by nbn fixed wireless in the Inverell region are now eligible to take advantage of these upgrades today.
The higher nbn network speeds are being made possible through a $750 million investment into the nbn Fixed Wireless network – $480 million from the Australian Government and an additional $270 million from nbn.
The upgrades aim to enable more coverage, less congestion, and access to much faster speeds especially during the busy periods. Upgrades to fixed wireless have also helped deliver a better experience for those on nbn Sky Muster satellite services, which now offer uncapped plans.
The nbn team will be at Inverell Newsagency from 9am to 2pm on Tuesday 29 September, Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October, helping local residents and businesses understand the upgrade process.
