A man has been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s north yesterday.
About 12pm (Monday 14 September 2026), officers attached to New England Police District attempted to stop a Toyota utility on Carrigan Road, Boomi, about 90km north-west of Moree, following reports the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a Queensland address earlier the same day.
When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued onto farmland and several roads in the vicinity before returning onto Carrigan Road, Dolgelly Road, Letter Box Road and the Newell Highway, prior to the vehicle driving into bushland.
Following inquiries, and with the assistance of community members, police located the vehicle shortly after in nearby bushland.
The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Following further inquiries, and with the assistance of the Dog Unit, police arrested a 22-year-old man nearby.
Police allegedly located and seized five rounds of ammunition in the man’s possession.
The man was taken to Moree Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, before being taken to Moree Police Station.
He was charged with three offences,
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and
- Receive etc property stolen outside NSW greater than $15,000.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 5 today (Tuesday 15 September 2026).
