The Inverell Saints are back on top of the AFL Northwest mountain after securing their 6th Men’s premiership following their 21-point win over the Tamworth Swans in Saturday’s Grand Final.
The game was close in the first half before the Saints booted three quick goals in the third term to set up an unassailable lead to eventually run out 12.9.81 to 8.12.60 victors.
Back man Ben Myler was adjudged best on field and awarded the Graham Nuttall Trophy
Coach Hayden Chappel was elated following the Grand Final win adding it made up for last year’s disappointment.
The Saints have now won three of the past four AFL Northwest premierships
Earlier in the day, The Gunnedah Poochettes defeated the Inverell Saints 6.5.40 to 2.8.20 to claim the Women’s premiership.
The Saints pressed early but couldn’t capitalize on the scoreboard before the Poochettes ran over the top to outclass the Saints.
Coach Chris Pay says the better team won on the day but praised his team for the season they had.
