The Uralla Tigers have broken a 19-year premiership drought after they pipped the Inverell Hawks 25-24 in yesterday’s Group 19 Grand Final at Woodville Oval at Uralla.
In a see sawing match, a penalty to Uralla’s Jacob Whitehill was converted the dying minutes of the game giving the Tigers the lead but the Hawks made one last grasp for victory with a sideline kick on the last play of the game to the wing, which was ultimately dropped, giving the Tigers the premiership.
Premiership winning coach Greg Ryan says it’s an 80-minute game and they went the distance against a determined Inverell Hawks outfit adding both sides played well and should be proud of their performance.
It wasn’t a great day for the Inverell Hawks as they were defeated by Uralla in Reserve grade 16-12 and were defeated by Glen Innes 16-10 in extra time but the Club stated on it’s social media pages that to have all three grades represent the club and the town on Grand Final day is an achievement in itself, and every player, coach, volunteer, sponsor, supporter and family member should hold their heads high.
