Appeal for Information Over Home Invasion in Moree

by | Sep 7, 2026 | Media Release, Police News

Police are appealing for information following a home invasion in the state’s north last week.

About 5.45am on Tuesday 1 September, officers attached to New England Police District were called to a unit on Adelaide Street, Moree, with reports of an attempted break and enter.

Police arrived and were told the residents – a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s – had awoken to find two unknown people running from their front yard. The home’s front door had been damaged.

About 6.30am on Thursday (3 September), the residents awoke to find a male intruder allegedly armed with a metal pole – affixed with sharp items – kicking in a door to the home, with a second intruder nearby.

The male then demanded money, hitting the male resident on his arm with the spiked weapon, causing a laceration, before placing the female resident in a chokehold and threatening her.

The male allegedly stole an amount of cash and smashed a hole in one of the home’s walls before he and the second intruder fled the residence in an unknown direction.

As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, officers are asking anyone who may have CCTV/mobile phone or dashcam footage, or who has witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during this time, to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000
