Emergency crews were called out to a house fire on Wearnes Rd, west of Inverell, yesterday morning.
Just before 9:30, crews arrived to find the single storey dwelling engulfed by fire with Bingara Fire & Rescue NSW along with several local Rural Fire Service crews extinguishing the fire, but unfortunately the house was completely destroyed.
An elderly couple, who were present at the time of the fire, were assisted by neighbours who evacuated them from the home with the man treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Bingara hospital for treatment while the woman was not injured.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but police say it’s believed to have been started by a faulty appliance and are treating the incident as not suspicious
