New England Police have issued a warning to Inverell residents to lock their homes and vehicles when unattended.
It follows four incidents of steal from motor vehicle and one break and enter offence in Inverell over the weekend.
It’s believed offenders often target unsecured homes and vehicles, taking advantage of opportunities when valuables are left visible or doors are left unlocked with statistics revealing 8 out of 10 cars are stolen using the owner’s keys.
To help protect property, police remind residents to remember to lock their home, vehicle, and garage doors, remove valuables from sight, secure keys and personal belongings and report any suspicious activity to police.
Police say a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
