Local Stud Shines at Brisbane Show

by | Aug 13, 2026 | Agriculture, Weather

The accolades continue to be received for local beef studs with another being recognised at the Royal QLD Show.

Jono and Robyn Elphick from Sunnyside Wagyu near Gum Flat claimed 1st Place in Class 39D – Taste Off, the Fullblood/Purebred Wagyu Challenge at the 2026 RNA Paddock to Palate Competition.

The Paddock to Palate competition is one of Australia’s great tests of commercial beef performance, assessing cattle right through the production chain – from weight gain and feedlot performance to carcase quality, value and, ultimately, eating quality.

Jono says they spend years making careful breeding decisions – selecting genetics for marbling, carcase performance, growth, functionality and consistency adding they’re incredibly proud of this result and of the breeding program behind it.
