The annual Sapphire Speed Shear was held under sunny skies at the Royal Hotel on Saturday.
Winners on the day included Bella Thompson in the novice event, Billy Reagan in the Intermediate section, senior event was taken out by Jayden Aramonnona, Hemi Power claimed the Open event, Peter Handebo & Jerome Tiaki won the teams event while Eli Raheke won the Shearing trophy.
Sapphire Speedshear committee person Sarah Furze says over $10,000 has been raised to date for mental health and suicide prevention from Saturday’s event but stresses a final figure is yet to be calculated.
She says a special indigenous rugby league jersey was also auctioned off for the French family which raised $360 with the Sapphire Speed Shear committee also committing $1000 to the family.
