Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has urged the NSW Government to commit to making the Moree police drone trial permanent, following strong evidence that the technology is improving community safety, strengthening frontline policing, and earning overwhelming support from residents and officers.
The trial, introduced earlier this year, has equipped Moree police with drone technology capable of rapid deployment during high‑risk incidents, real‑time surveillance, and improved offender tracking. Police have used the drones to monitor stolen vehicles, support search operations, gather intelligence during pursuits, and provide aerial oversight during disturbances such as break‑and‑enter offences.
Brendan Moylan said the results were clear, consistent, and compelling.
“The drone trial has delivered exactly what the Moree community hoped it would, faster responses, better intelligence, and safer outcomes for our community and our police,” Brendan said.
“Local Police officers are telling me they want this technology to stay, and residents are telling me they feel more secure in their homes.
“People here want practical solutions that help police do their job, and this technology has done exactly that.
Mr Moylan said police have been able to respond more quickly, are better coordinated and there has been a noticeable lift in community confidence.
“The drones have supported Moree officers and the community, and it makes complete sense to make this permanent.”
“When residents can see police responding swiftly and effectively, it restores confidence. These drones have become an important part of that.”
Mr Moylan said the message from Moree was united and unmistakable.
