Neighbouring residents near a proposed solar farm near the Inverell racecourse has raised concerns about the proposal, questioning the location and the environmental impacts.
The proposal is a 4.99 mw solar farm with Inverell Shire Council confirming there hasn’t been a development application submitted.
Inverell Shire Council had received a development application for a solar farm and Battery Energy storage system at Cameron Street, but the pre-lodgement review identified several matters that needed to be addressed through updated documentation, additional information, or written confirmation
Resident Sharon Morton says some serious concerns have been raised about the proposal including it being built on a flood prone area and bushfire zone, as well as it’s visual and environmental impacts adding this isn’t about being against renewable energy, it’s about making sure developments of this scale are in the right location, that environmental impacts are properly considered, and that the voices of local families who will live with the consequences are genuinely heard.
It’s believed public submissions to the proposal close tomorrow.
