Saints Retain Kevin Pay Memorial Shield

by | Jul 6, 2026 | Sport

The Inverell Saints have retained the Kevin Pay Memorial Shield after winning both games on Saturday at Varley Oval in Round 11 of the AFL Northwest competition.

The men edged out the Tamworth Swans in a tough and grueling game to win 9.11.65 to 9.7.61 with Saints men’s coach Hayden Chappel paying tribute to ruckman Dylan Hogg, Lachie Stewarts’ terrific game at fullback and backman Ben Myler who took a goal saving intercept mark deep into the last quarter.

The win takes the Saints to clear second on the ladder.

Meantime in the Women’s game, the league’s leading goal scorer Katrina Doak booted a further 9 goals in the Saints massive 113-point win over the Swans.

Coach Chris Pay says Doak has had a wonderful season to date and hopes that continues into the second half of the year.

In Armidale, the New England Nomads upset the Tamworth Kangaroos by 14 points to win 10.12.72 to 8.10.58 while the Nomads women forfeited their game to the Roos.
