A man will face court today after allegedly stabbing a woman and stealing a motor vehicle in the state’s North West Slopes region yesterday.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a hospital in Quirindi about 11.45am yesterday (Monday 22 June 2026), following reports a woman had presented with stab wounds.
Police arrived and were told a woman – aged in her 40s – had been sleeping inside a home on Breeza Street, Quirindi, when a man repeatedly stabbed her with a knife.
She was then taken to hospital by a passerby where she remains in a serious condition, being treated for a slash wound to her throat and knife wounds to her head, torso, arms and hands.
Police were also told the man had allegedly stolen a sedan from the residence.
Following inquiries, about 12.15pm, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command located a 25-year-old man driving the vehicle in Quirindi.
Police arrested the man and took him to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm (DV), armed with intent commit indictable offence, and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 5 today (Tuesday 23 June 2026).
