Renewable Energy Company South Energy has provided an update on the proposed Inverell Battery Energy Storage System.
The Project is currently in the Environmental Impact Statement phase with a team of specialist assessors investigating a range of environmental, social and technical considerations to better understand the Project and its potential impacts.
South Energy state members of the Project team met in person with the Alliance of Directly Affected Neighbours group in Inverell earlier this month and discussed key topics including fire risk (including potential pollution impacts in the unlikely event of a fire), bushfire risk, noise, visual impacts, construction impacts, property impacts (including values and insurance), and potential community benefit structures.
In the coming weeks, they hope to announce their next round of community information sessions in Inverell, which will be open to the wider community.
The Project team is currently working towards an Environmental Impact Statement submission in mid to late 2026 and is the fourth step out of the nine-step State Significance Development process.
