Local Trainers Earn Big Wins

by | Jun 22, 2026 | Sport

Inverell trainers have performed well over the weekend with Todd Payne scoring a double on Friday at the transferred Coffs harbor meeting held at Inverell, Ridge Wilson claiming the Talmoi Picnic Cup while Wayne Oakenfull picked up a double at Talmoi.

Payne had two runners on Friday with the heavily fancied Shamedy taking out the Woolgoolga Cup and Soobooco convincingly winning the last race by almost 3 lengths.

Wilson entered More Cash into the Talmoi Cup and after racing on the speed, the gelding held on to win by a long neck.

He says he was a little worried about how the horse would handle the dirt track and got more concerned when he got three deep around the back but added he just toughed it out to score the win.

Wayne Oakenfull also scored a double at Talmoi while with Shut eye and Pub Feed greeting the judge.

Bush racing in the north-west now heads to the ever-popular Mungindi Cup meeting scheduled for Saturday, July 4.
