Inverell Shire Council has resolved to suspend the Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for the management of the Inverell Mountain Bike Track, providing an opportunity for the Inverell Mountain Bike Club to reform.
At its April Ordinary Meeting, Council endorsed a recommendation to pause the EOI process to allow community members time to re-establish the club, with an Annual General Meeting scheduled for this Wednesday (6 May 2026).
The decision follows strong community interest in reviving the club, with approximately 20 people expressing a willingness to be involved after a public call-out.
A community meeting was held earlier this month to discuss the future of the facility and the potential reformation of the club.
Mayor Cr. Kate Dight said Council’s decision reflects the value of community-led management of local recreational facilities.
“Council recognises the important role the Mountain Bike Club has played in developing and maintaining this facility over many years. Providing an opportunity for the club to reform supports a community-driven outcome and helps retain local knowledge, skills and passion for the track.”
Under the resolution, if the Inverell Mountain Bike Club is successfully reformed at the upcoming AGM, Council will enter into a new licence agreement with the club for the management of the track, located on Crown Reserve 95657.
If the club is not successfully re-established, Council will proceed with the EOI process, as previously resolved at its March 2026 meeting, to identify an alternative organisation to manage the facility.
Council noted that the EOI process had not yet commenced, meaning no external parties are disadvantaged by the temporary suspension.
The Inverell Mountain Bike Track was temporarily closed following the March Council meeting due to the club’s inactive status.
The future management of the facility remains focused on ensuring ongoing public access and sustainable operation.
Community members interested in supporting the reformation of the club are encouraged to attend the AGM this Wednesday (6 May) from 6pm at McDonald’s Inverell.
