Livestock Producer Heatwave Warning

by | Jan 27, 2026 | Agriculture

With the mercury continuing to soar in the region, the Northern Tablelands Local Land Service has issued a warning to livestock producers.

Heatwaves can be fatal for livestock, particularly for at-risk animals such as lambs and calves, older animals or animals in poor condition.

Landholders are reminded to put plans in place for livestock and animals that may be impacted, including providing ample shade, easy access to cool, clean drinking water, minimising stock movement and monitoring livestock regularly as well as checking for any signs of heat exposure, including sweating, excessive panting and drooling.

For more livestock health and production advice, contact the NSW Government Local Land Services district veterinarian on 1300 795 299
