The Inverell Aerodrome is set to be closed this weekend, weather permitting, whilst improvement works are being conducted on the Taxiway and Apron.
Inverell Shire Council was successful in securing over $271,000 under the Federal Government’s Regional Airports Program Round 3, with Council matching the funding for a total project value of $541,500.
The works will include extending and upgrading the current light aircraft parking apron to provide two additional heavy aircraft parking bays and up to four additional light aircraft parking spaces.
Council stated in this month’s Business papers that these improvements will enhance the safety of the aerodrome by removing parked heavy aircraft from the main apron, ensuring the area remains clear for visiting aircraft, including emergency services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, CareFlight and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The aerodrome will close from 3pm this Friday and reopen at 11am this Monday.
