The NSW Nationals have moved quickly to elect its new leader after the surprise announcement from former leader Dugald Saunders who stepped down on Monday.
Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh was elected unopposed as the party’s new leader yesterday with Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson elected unopposed as his deputy leader.
Former NSW Police Minister Paul Toole and Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke were thought to be contenders but decided not to run.
Mr Saunders said in a statement on Monday that he believed it was the right time for him to take a step back and focus more on his family and himself and comes after a video surfaced of his 19-year-old daughter Charlie featured in a documentary on the adult industry.
