Council Receives Govt Cost Shifting Response

by | Nov 4, 2025 | Politics, Local Government | 0 comments

Inverell Shire Council has received correspondence from Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig in relation to council’s concerns over government cost shifting onto local government.

Shire Mayor Kate Dight says the cost shifting from the state government had cost Council an extra $4 million which in turn was costing Inverell ratepayers around $500 per person.

Mayor Dight says Council had received a lengthy response from the Minister addressing her concerns and also highlighting the change in rate peg methodology to include the cost of the emergency services levy.

She says Mr Hoenig has also made a recommendation that NSW Rural Fire Service assets be moved back to the State government and hopes it becomes a reality sooner rather than later.
