After a four-year hiatus, the Bundarra Cup is back in Bundarra.
In August this year, the Bundarra Racing Club was formed after the Bundarra community agreed that it needed to take ownership of their annual event. The community spent weeks clearing and giving the racecourse much-needed improvements to bring the track back to its former glory.
Matthew Monk, Chair of the newly formed Bundarra Racing Club said, “The work and the renovations of the track and facilities where driven by the Bundarra community.”
He said, “This is our main social event, and brings back past residents and families, and is part of a proud historic past for the district.”
The news of the Bundarra Cup returning to the community has excited the community and race lovers alike.
The community has also worked tirelessly improving the towns amenities and facilities, including the local caravan/RV park, just in time for the races.
The Bundarra Cup on the 4th of October 2025 has attracted a dozen major sponsors, and food drink and entertainment will be part of this six-race meeting.
“The work to rebirth this important social event in Bundarra has invigorated the community and offered the entire district an opportunity to be part of something new and exciting”, said Matthew Monk.
History: The first race was run in 1906 on the historic Bundarra racecourse and continued through until 2020. In 2024, Racing NSW approached the Armidale Jockey Club to host the meeting. The last Bundarra Cup was run on Saturday 5th October 2024 in Armidale.
