This week is National Dementia Action Week and Inverell Community Support is sharing facts and tips about dementia to encourage open conversations, reduce fear and stigma, and highlight the support available to people living with dementia and their carers.
Dementia is not just about memory loss – it’s a decline in thinking and cognitive function, which can make everyday tasks more difficult with the disease being Australia’s second leading cause of death and the leading cause of death among Australian women.
Inverell Community Support advise there is no single test for dementia, but early diagnosis is key to better outcomes, including treatment, planning and accessing services.
Healthy lifestyle choices can reduce one’s risk including staying physically active, eating a balanced, nutritious diet, keeping your brain challenged, staying socially connected, having regular health and hearing checks.
