Gwydir Shire Mayor Tiffany Galvin remains frustrated at Telstra following yet another communications outage which affected the Shire last week.
The latest telecommunications outage hit Bingara last Wednesday week, leaving the whole town without phones due to the battery network failing to kick in during a power upgrade at the top end of town.
Mayor Galvin says the outages have been affecting the Shire for months with outages affecting local businesses who lost a huge number of sales because they couldn’t offer EFTPOS facilities over the Easter and June long weekends.
She says the outages are very inconvenient and put lives at risk, highlighting in the event of an emergency, SMS’s to Triple Zero cannot be sent on the current satellite system.
