Gwydir Shire Council has issued a warning to campers that water levels along the Gwydir River near Bingara may rise in the coming days due to the forecasted rainfall.
It follows forecasts of days of rainfall which may lead to minor to moderate and even possibly isolated major flooding through parts of northern and eastern New South Wales later this week, areas which may already be saturated.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast widespread falls, anywhere from 30 to 50mm through much of inland areas but have warned 50 to 100mm may fall through quite a large area of New South Wales.
Council says while there is currently no cause for alarm and the river remains open to campers, it is recommended for anyone camping in low-lying areas to move to higher ground as a precaution.
This includes moving all your vehicles, canoeing, fishing equipment and personal items away from the water’s edge and to a safe distance if flooding is to occur.
