Australians Shut Out of Economic Reform Talks, New Polling Shows – But AMPLIFY Has a Solution

by | Aug 20, 2025 | Politics | 0 comments

New polling from YouGov commissioned by AMPLIFY has revealed most Australians feel excluded from the Federal Government’s Economic Reform Roundtable which started in Canberra yesterday, with three in four unaware the talks are even taking place and a majority doubting they will deliver meaningful change.

Key findings:

  • 73% of Australians are unaware or unsure of the roundtable.
  • 60% are not confident it will lead to meaningful change.
  • 65% believe improving productivity will see Australians working harder with benefits flowing mainly to employers.
  • 67% believe a focus on productivity could still increase job opportunities.

AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson said the results show a dangerous disconnect between government and the public, but also a clear path forward.

“Australians are being left out of the conversation on economic reform, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We’ve shown there is a solution: when you give communities the tools, the evidence, and a genuine seat at the table, they will back bold, practical reforms,” she said.

Earlier this year AMPLIFY’s national housing deliberation demonstrated how 100 randomly selected Australians could find common ground on complex issues, shifting their views and supporting faster housing supply, modern construction methods and stronger renters’ rights.

“This is proof that Australians are ready to make the tough trade-offs if they’re trusted to be part of the process. Government doesn’t have to guess what the community will accept, AMPLIFY has the tools to bring those voices in and build the constituencies needed for lasting reform,” Ms Harrisson said.

“There is a clear solution: open the doors to everyday Australians, and the reforms that seem politically impossible can become achievable. AMPLIFY is ready to help make that happen.”

AMPLIFY CEO Georgina Harrisson is available this week to talk through the polling results and provide commentary on the roundtable outcomes as well as AMPLIFY’s submission on behalf of the community
