The New England Hwy was closed for a period between Guyra and Black Mountain yesterday afternoon following a head-on collision during a police pursuit.
The Northern Daily Leader reports that a Holden commodore was involved in a police pursuit, with the vehicle losing control and crashing into another vehicle as it attempted to overtake a B-Double truck near Black Mountain around 4pm.
A 44-year-old man remains in custody at Armidale Police Station, after he was arrested at the crash site, failing a subsequent roadside breath test.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor facial injuries and taken to Armidale hospital for emergency treatment last night.
Police investigations into the crash are continuing, and the highway has reopened to traffic.
