Inverell Shire Council has progressed the transition of management for the Inverell Homes for the Aged by adopting the Draft Plan of Management for the site and moving to the next stage of the process involving public notice of a proposed lease to BEST Employment Ltd.
Council previously provided in-principle support for the management of the Homes for the Aged to transition from the current management committee to BEST Employment Ltd. The latest decision formally adopts the Draft Plan of Management, which was amended to expressly authorise the granting of a lease over the community land on which the homes are situated.
The Draft Plan of Management was placed on public exhibition in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, with the exhibition commencing on 20 April 2026. At the conclusion of the exhibition and submission period on 1 June 2026, no submissions had been received, allowing Council to proceed with adoption of the plan.
Council will now give public notice of its intention to enter into a lease with BEST Employment Ltd for the community land, in accordance with Section 47A of the Local Government Act 1993. The proposed lease would support the continued use of the site for the provision of low-cost self-contained accommodation for older residents.
Following the public notification period, Council will receive a further report addressing any submissions received and the specific provisions of the proposed lease before any lease is finalised. This process is part of the required legal and procedural steps to support an orderly transition of management.
Mayor Kate Dight said โthe transition process is being undertaken carefully to ensure appropriate governance and continuity for residents. Council is committed to ensuring the Inverell Homes for the Aged continue to provide valued accommodation for older members of our community.โ
