Inverell Shire Council has been advised by Transport for NSW that multiple roads across the town of Ashford have been reviewed by their team and will be reduced to 50km/h from their previous 60km/h.
The changes will be implemented on Wednesday 10th December 2025.
These changes are as follows (please see the included map):
• 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟔𝟎 𝐤𝐦/𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝/𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐤𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐮𝐟𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐡𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 (𝟖𝟐𝟎 𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠), 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝟓𝟎 𝐤𝐦/𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞.

Transport for NSW have provided justification for the reduction of the speeds zones for the following reasons;
To provide a safe operating environment for road users in the town of Ashford that is self-explanatory and consistent with other speed zones in both the local town itself and across the north western network of towns.
The reductions put in place will support the following Safe Systems Speed Zoning principles;
• 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 – 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦,
• 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐰𝐨 – 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝
